Your Skin Was
Not  The Problem

For many of us, skincare begins with correction. We learn to dry out excess oil, exfoliate away texture, calm redness, and search for products that promise to fix whatever appears in the mirror. The routine often grows longer with each new concern, yet very little time is spent understanding how the skin functions before trying to change it.

That question became unexpectedly important to me while teaching my daughters how to care for their skin. I wasn't interested in building complicated routines. I wanted them to understand what healthy skin is designed to do and how thoughtful products can support those natural processes instead of continually interrupting them.

As I developed the formulations that would become SHEANDIS, I found myself studying skin physiology, cleansing chemistry, barrier function, botanical oils, and the relationship between ingredients and the skin they are intended to support. That journey changed the way I think about skincare. Every formulation begins with understanding the skin first.

Every Routine Has a Purpose

Every skincare routine begins with cleansing, yet it is often the step we think about the least. We tend to focus on the products that follow, assuming they carry the greatest responsibility within the routine. Over time, I began to wonder whether that first step deserved a closer look.

As I learned more about skin physiology and formulation, I discovered that cleansing is an exercise in balance. The goal is to remove what no longer belongs on the skin while respecting the environment the skin works to maintain every day. That simple idea changed the questions I asked while developing each formulation.

Understanding cleansing became less about finding a perfect product and more about appreciating the role it plays within the entire routine. Every decision that follows begins with the condition of the skin after that first step.

Every Formulation Answers a Different Question.

Why Cleansing Deserves

More Attention

Small Questions Often Lead to Better Routines.

One of the things I appreciate most about developing SHEANDIS is that it taught me to ask different questions. Instead of wondering which ingredient was receiving the most attention, I became curious about how products worked together over time. How did a formulation feel after weeks of use? What role did texture play in the experience? How did small adjustments influence the routine as a whole?

Those questions gradually shifted my attention away from individual ingredients and toward formulation itself. Every botanical oil contributes its own characteristics, yet no ingredient exists in isolation. The way oils are combined, balanced, and experienced together often shapes the product just as much as the ingredients themselves.

That process continues today. Every formulation begins with curiosity, develops through careful refinement, and is evaluated as part of the complete routine rather than as a collection of individual ingredients.

Where Sheandis Began

When my daughters first began asking about skincare, I wanted to help them build habits they could carry with them for years. That simple goal became an unexpected invitation to learn more about the skin itself and the thoughtful decisions that shape a routine.

Looking back, I'm grateful that curiosity led me here. It continues to influence every formulation we create and every conversation we hope to encourage through SHEANDIS.
